Child Safety Standards

Last updated: 29 June 2026

Mirlo has zero tolerance for content or behaviour that sexually abuses or exploits children. This page describes the standards we hold, how anyone can report a concern, and how we respond. It applies to every part of Mirlo, on every device, in every country where the app is available.

Who Mirlo is for

Mirlo is a 13+ service. Anyone under 13 is not permitted to create or use an account, and any account we discover to belong to a child under 13 is removed. In jurisdictions where the minimum age for use of an online service is higher than 13, the higher local age applies.

What is not allowed

We prohibit, and remove on sight:

  • Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) in any form, including computer-generated, drawn, or animated depictions.
  • Sexualised content involving anyone under 18, whether real or fictional.
  • Grooming behaviour. This includes attempts by adults to build inappropriate relationships with minors, requests for sexual images or contact, and sharing sexual content with a minor.
  • Sextortion. This includes threatening to share intimate images, demanding money, sexual content, or further images.
  • Trafficking, recruitment, or solicitation of minors for sexual purposes.
  • Linking, signposting, or directing anyone to off-platform locations where the above content or behaviour can be found.

We also prohibit the normalisation, glorification, or trivialisation of any of the above.

How to report a concern

Every post and profile in Mirlo has a Report button. Selecting it lets you choose a reason, including sexual content, harassment, and other safety concerns. To report someone you are talking to in a direct message, open their profile and tap Report. Reports are private. The person reported is not told who reported them.

If you cannot use the in-app Report button, or your concern does not fit a single post or profile, email support@mirlo.social. We treat child safety reports as our highest priority and respond as quickly as we can.

If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.

How we respond

Child safety reports are reviewed by a human at Mirlo, not by automation alone. When we confirm a violation we remove the content and suspend the account.

Where we identify apparent CSAM, we forward it to a national hotline in the INHOPE network and to law enforcement in the user's country. Once the EU Centre on Child Sexual Abuse is operational, we will report to it as well.

We do not allow appeals to result in the reinstatement of accounts that have been suspended for CSAM, grooming, sextortion, or trafficking of minors.

Our compliance commitments

Mirlo complies with applicable laws in the regions where the app is available. This includes:

  • The EU Regulation on combating child sexual abuse online, as it enters into force, and the Digital Services Act obligations on illegal content removal.
  • Local laws in every country where Mirlo is available, including reporting obligations to national child protection authorities.

Working with researchers and authorities

We respond to lawful requests from law enforcement, child protection regulators, and safety researchers. We also welcome direct contact from organisations that work on child safety online and can route reports through our designated contact below.

Designated contact

Questions about these standards, requests from authorities, and reports from child safety organisations should be sent to support@mirlo.social. A named human reads every message sent to this address.
